For the development of the new formulations against the Varroa destructor mite, the main components of essential oils have been selected as active substances. The reason is that, in addition to its proven anti-varroa activity, the generation of residues is very low, and the development of resistance by Varroa, unlikely.
To obtain a formulation whose effectiveness is maintained throughout the life cycle of Varroa, which will allow to reduce the frequency of application, the adequate design of the support that contains the active substances is key. The controlled and uniform release of the active substance must be ensured, as well as the maintenance of the properties over time.
Based on this, different formulations were designed, of which, after several evaluations, three were finally selected: gel type, pasta type and oleogel type. Each one is developed from an essential oil or combinations of them, incorporated in a specifically designed support for each case based on technical and economic criteria.
